A customer came to us with concerns about a southeast-facing door that leads into her backyard. Not only was the door causing energy issues, letting heat in during the morning and early afternoon, the customer also felt that the lack of visibility to the door made it a security risk. She requested a secure door with an effective entry system that was more energy efficient.
The Solution
We knew that a ProVia Door System would be the answer to both of these problems. The ProVia door we suggested is 20-gauge steel, satisfying the client’s need for security, but with the variety of colors available it’s also an attractive option. She chose a stained finish with a wood grain texture to give the door the warmth and feel of wood without the added maintenance.
To make sure the door had a precision fit and to prevent any further air leakage, our installers measured the opening to 1/8 of an inch. Provia doors are fully customizable in terms of size, glass options, style, hardware and operating specifications, so we were able to order one that met the specs the customer provided. The door took five weeks to custom build and deliver to us. We then scheduled the install at a date that worked best for the customer.
Upon arrival, we prepped the area and removed the old door piece by piece. At that point, we discovered that the customer’s trim was worn and rotted from the elements. We wanted to make sure that the new door was consistent with the rest of the home, so we made a trip to the lumberyard to find an exact match. Then we installed the door with all the proper adjustments, caulked, and cleaned up. Complete customer satisfaction is important to us, so we always educate our clients on the products that we install, including information about benefits and correct maintenance.
Results
The customer was ecstatic. She said the door reminds her of a heavy-duty vault every time she opens and closes it — without the weight — and it feels so safe! The door also utilized low-e coated glass that reflects six to seven times more light than standard builder-grade glass, which will significantly lower her utility bill.
